What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a surgical procedure that enhances the appearance of the top lip by repositioning the tissue so that more of the natural area of coloration, called the vermilion, is visible.

From start to end, the procedure usually takes less than an hour and is performed under local anesthetic or sometimes sedation. The procedure does two things: it increases the prominence of the vermillion border (the line where the darker tissue of the lip meets the surrounding skin); it shortens the vertical distance between the center of the nose and the center of the upper lip (called the philtrum). It's accomplished by removing a wedge of tissue from under the nose, which lifts the top lip. Again, no lip fillers or implants are used.
